There Are Times When Belief Is All You Need

Today, I woke up lazy, but in the mood for a big cup of latte and a good book.  I chose to read an  inspirational book by James W. Moore.  It’s a book  full of powerful stories, examples from the lives of others, and practical suggestions for daily living.   Below is an excerpt from his book, Some Folks Feel the Rain . . . Others Just Get Wet:

A man was lost while driving through the country.  As he tried to read a map, he accidentally drove off the road into a ditch.  Though he wasn’t injured, his car was stuck deep in the mud.  So the man walked to a nearby farm to ask for help.

Attitude Is Key In Relationship Building

positive-attitude-2Attitude is your most priceless possession, one of your most valuable assets.  To a great extent, it determines the overall quality of your life.

In this climate of uncertainty , I am convinced more than ever that people need to know that having an ongoing positive attitude toward your business associates and customers is key to success.  They assume you’ll give them  a great big “thank you” after you give them a referral or buy your product.  However, do you keep that attitude of gratitude throughout the relationship, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health?

Can You Be Trusted?

Do people seek out and enjoy my company?  Are my relationships- with friends, family and business partners- rich and mutually fulfilling?  Do I receive recognition in business and acknowledgment from my team?

“If you can’t answer these questions with a resounding yes,” says Sandy Allgeier, author of The Personal Credibility Factor,  “don’t curse fate or pin the blame on everyone around you.  You might have a personal credibility problem, and the good news is that it can be fixed.”

According to Allgeier,  personal credibility is the magic bullet for success and happiness.   She explains that personal credibility is about respect, trust and being believable.

Achieve True Connection By Listening

ListeningIf you are to make a list of the country’s most influential people, who would you include?  For sure, President Obama would make that list.  So would Warren Buffett and perhaps Steve Jobs.  You could argue that Sarah Palin to be on it depending on whether you’re a fan or not.  Now there’s one name that you may or may not have considered:  Oprah Winfrey.

Her success was hugely attributed to her ability to talk.  But Oprah did more of her share of listening.  The application of her ability to listen is obvious on her television show  She is constantly observing and listening to find issues to address on the air.  When she brings experts, celebrities, and authors on her show, she genuinely listens to what they have to say.  Oprah’s listening ability has rewarded her with incredible success and influence.

To improve your listening, consider the following:

5 Ways to Extinguish Fear

optimismEven if you have a solid plan to get through the downturn, it’s easy to become overwhelmed or fearful of what may be around the corner.  Here are some action steps to help get your mind out of the recession rut:

1.  Change your point of view. For every negative statistic, there’s a more positive way to look at it.  For example, a 9.7% unemployment rate sounds scary; however, focus instead on the fact that 90.3% of Americans are working.  There are also lessons to be learned such as how to live on a budget and how to depend less on credit.
